Green Day + The Offspring Live

You've probably heard that Green Day won seven awards, out of the eight nominations at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. Green Day won awards for best rock video and best video for Boulevard of Broken Dreams, as well as best group, the viewers' choice award and several technical awards. Speaking after the show lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong told reporters, "It's nice to know that rock music still has a place on MTV". Does it?

The Offspring's metal-inflected punk became a popular sensation in 1994, selling over four million albums on an independent record label. In June 2005 they released a set with the greatest hits; in addition to their major hits, it included the new track "Can't Repeat".

that's completely dependant on how one defines "rock"-- a word I would scarcely use in conjunction with Green Day, unless led by some negative modifier-- MTV likes formula [since formula breeds control]. If you're formulaic rock [read pop], MTV has almost 8 minutes of airtime available between their sitcom programming schedule.
