Nest + Crix Crax Crux

Nest is a 5-piece indie pop outfit from LA that has just released their self-titled debut EP. The music is dominated by the beautiful voice of the leading singer Ayana Haviv that in some cases reminds on Fiona Apple or even Alanis Morissette. The songs are melodic, mainly keyboard-driven, with occasional insertion of acoustic and electronic sounds. The new EP can be purchased at band's homepage.

The music of Crix Crax Crux could be described as experimental/indie rock that has some influences from Violent Femmes and David Bowie but has it's own flavor and is certainly worth a try. The band is under Frigital Records independant label. The two songs are presented from the upcoming release Mountainears.

Nest makes nice sleepy-time music. I'm hearin' a lot of Sarah McLachlan in the vocals though, and, interestingly, I don't see her listed as an influence. Oversight or anti-Canadian bias revealed?

Alanis is Canadian, isn't she?

Yes, Alanis Morrisette is not-so-secretely Canadian.

To clarify, though, I wasn't implying (however humorously...or not) that you may have an anti-Canadian bias. I meant the band. Actually, it was a rather stupid joke to begin with...

I tought the joke relates to my 'the-best-of-2005 list' where I missed to put canadians in :). Anyway, my english is not so good so it may happen that I sometimes misunderstand things.
