Final Fantasy

Owen Pallett, under his acclaimed Final Fantasy guise, has won the inaugural Polaris Music Prize for the sophomore album He Poos Clouds. Final Fantasy beat out the popular groups Wolf Parade, New Pornographers, Broken Social Scene, and Metric, among others, to take home the $20,000 cash prize, which he plans to donate to his Canadian independent record label, Blocks Recording Club, after paying off some student loans. The Polaris Prize, modeled after the venerable Mercury Prize in the UK began this year to highlight recent Canadian musical accomplishments.

In addition, to the winning of the award, Owen is debuting a new video for the title track, “He Poos Cloud.” The beautifully shot video, a live-action and animation combination featuring cartoons and zoetropes, was directed by Jesse Ewles of Nude Mouse Media. This is the final version, with the highest fidelity—early versions were not sanctioned by either of the artists. The video is available for download or viewing in a variety of sources:
