Oasis have been named best act in the world today at this year's Q Awards. The band's Noel Gallagher also collected the classic songwriter award at the London ceremony. The Arctic Monkeys won the best album and the people's choice awards. U2 picked up the prize for innovation reports the BBC. They also received the special one-off band of bands accolade. Smokey Robinson was honoured with his first ever UK award for his outstanding contribution to music. Boy George collected the classic song award for Karma Chameleon. Other winners were Muse for best live act, The Who received the prestigious Q legend award, Primal Scream won the Q groundbreaker award and Take That took home the Idol Award. Director Tim Burton presented the best video award to The Killers for When You Were Young. The Manic Street Preachers picked up the Q merit award which they dedicated to their late manager Philip Hall and band member Richey Edwards, who disappeared in 1995. Other winners included Corinne Bailey Rae, for best new act, Gnarls Barkley's Crazy, for best track, and Moby picked up a lifetime achievement award ...

Jennifer O'Connor will release an online-only EP next week. To mark her appearance at the Bob Dylan tribute concert Thursday (Nov. 9) at New York's Linconl Center, O'Connor's readied a digital-only EP. Although O'Connor's set to sing alongside Ramblin' Jack Elliott and Patti Smith in a version of "Knockin' on Heavens Door," the EP, Another Side of Jennifer O'Connor takes on a slightly less iconoclastic Dylan song, opening with "Two Ramona." Three other originals surface on the EP as well. The Another Side of Jennifer O'Connor EP exclusively surfaces on EMusic from Matador Records Nov. 7, and follows up this year's Over the Mountain, Across the Valley and Back to the Stars (Matador) ...

My Chemical Romance say they might turn their album, The Black Parade, into a musical. Frontman, Gerard Way told NME: "I think (The Black Parade) needs to be something. "If not a play then a musical. It's such a visual thing. I think it would make a great animated film, something experimental would really work for this." He also added: "It'd also be really interesting to rewrite the script so when you make it into a movie it should be something almost totally different. "It would be cool to maybe play with the notions of what you're making than just simply tell the story." The Black Parade is currently at No 2 in the UK album chart, behind Robbie Williams' Rudebox ...

Despite the avalanche of side projects and the disintegrating lineup, Blur still has another album in it. Bassist Alex James told the BBC that the Britpop band will make another album, despite the fact that front man Damon Albarn's spent most of his time with his other bands, The Gorillaz and The Good, the Bad and the Queen. James even speculated that he may be able to get estranged guitarist Graham Coxon back in the band for one final farewell album with the full lineup ...

Kasabian have announced details of their new single. The band already plan to release Shoot The Runner on November 6, but they have now revealed they will released Me Plus One in the new year. The song, released on January 29, will be the third single from their album Empire ...

The Scissor Sisters have announced details of the second single to be taken from their album Ta-Dah. The track, Land Of A Thousand Words, will be released on December 4, according to NME. The Scissors Sisters last single, I Don't Feel Like Dancin', went to number 1 in the UK charts earlier this year ...

Rocky Votolato will head into the studio this month to start work on a new album. Following the conclusion of his tour with Lucero, the singer/songwriter plans to head into an unspecified studio at the end of the month to record a follow-up to this year's Makers (Barsuk). Although a schedule hasn't been developed, he hopes to have a new album ready for next fall's releases ...

Apples In Stereo have a new drummer behind the kit. The act revealed it tapped John Dufilho to hit the skins. Dufilho, who's previously known for fronting The Deathray Davies, replaces longtime Apples drummer Hilarie Sidney, who left the act to concentrate on her own band, the High Water Marks. The band will return in Feburary with New Magnetic Wonder, the debut album for Elijah Wood's Simian Records ...
