West Indian Girl

West Indian Girl is a rock band from Los Angeles, who released their self-titled debut album in August 2004 on Astralwerks. The band's music draws influence from the California coastline where the band resides. The songs have sweeping melodies and haunting harmonies courtesy of the band's two lead vocalists. While the band does have influences of psychedelic bands of the 60's their songs have a clear pop sensibility that makes the music appeal to a wide audience.

West Indian Girl are Robert James (guitar/vocals), Mariqueen Maandig (vocals), Francis Ten (bass), Nathan Van Hala (keyboards), Mark Lewis (drums), and Amy White (keyboards/vocals). The band's name comes from a type of acid that was popular in the early 60s, and it's initials are a reference to James' and Ten's previous band, "WIG". Their video for "What Are You Afraid Of" has received heavy airplay on MTV2's underground show Subterranean.

The band released "Remix EP" in 2006 which features remixes of songs on their self-titled debut. They are currently working on their second full-length album, "4th & Wall," due to be released October 23, 2007 on Milan Records. In August 2007 the band signed a pioneering recording and wireless distribution deal with digital media and entertainment company Flycell. The First single, Blue Wave, has been released on September 25, 2007. Highly Recommended!
