Track A Tiger

Track A Tiger is a 5-piece indie-pop outfit from Chicago, Illinoise. The main person behind the band is singer & guitarist Jim Vallet who started TaT project two years ago, when he developed the ideas for couple of songs and made preliminary recordings using his acoustic guitar and a laptop. Introducing the rest of the band's memebers, the songs were shaped, the new instruments were added, and everything was ready to be packed into a piece of art that sounds to be a promising debut. The album, "Woke up early the day I died", will be offically released at 28th February (tomorrow) for the Future Appletree Records and can be ordered here.

The Verve Live + Nova Rock Festival + !?

Long acclaimed as among the most innovative and spellbinding bands on the contemporary British pop scene, the Verve finally broke through to a mass international audience in 1997 with the instant classic "Bittersweet Symphony." By no stretch a study in overnight success, the group's rise was instead the culmination of a long, arduous journey that began at the dawn of the decade and went on to encompass a major breakup, multiple lawsuits, and an extensive diet of narcotics. Perfecting an oceanic sound fusing the exploratory vision of '60s-era psychedelia with the shimmering atmospherics of the shoegazer aesthetic, the Verve languished in relative obscurity while waiting for the rest of the music world to play catch-up, creating one of the most complex and rewarding bodies of work in modern rock & roll long before most listeners even learned of their existence -- only to again fall apart at the peak of their success.

Nova Rock Festival: GnR & Alice In Chains

Guns'N'Roses and Alice In Chains are announced as performers on this year's Nova Rock Festival that takes place this summer in Wien, Austria. Among performers are Metallica, Tool, Placebo, Massive Attack, M.I.A., Hard-Fi, Bloodhound Gang and Queens Of The Stone Age. G'n'R are about to release they long awaited album 'Chinese Democracy' that has already leaked on the net. Since Alice In Chains icon, Layne Stayley, passed away, it would be interesting to find out who will sing now - a new singer or band's gitarist Jerry Cantrell who used to do supporting vocals.

!?
This year we expect many new releases as those from Keane, RHCP, Radiohead, The Arcade Fire, Muse, Guns'N'Roses, Placebo, Adam Green, Graham Coxon, The Dresden Dolls, etc. Many of those have already leaked. It seems to me that it becomes the usual praxis of record companies to create a buzz before an album is officially released. And the example is - Arctic Monkeys. Almost all of the songs from their actual album were available as demos long time before the official release appeared, and the result - an enormous sell and imagine this - covered from Sugababes. It seems it works.

(The Sounds Of) Kaleidoscope

The Washington, D.C., band (The Sounds Of) Kaleidoscope was formed by Damien C. Taylor in 1995, but it was only sporadically active in its first few years, with many personnel changes and privately distributed cassettes. Finally, Taylor settled on a rhythm section of brothers Mike Dugan (bass) and John Dugan (drums) for a July 2000 recording session. The session yielded an EP, These Are (The Sounds Of) Kaleidiscope, released by Foxy Boy Records in July 2002. More changes resulted in a new lineup of Taylor (guitar and vocals) and two former members of the Ropers, Douglas Bailey (bass) and Alex Hacker (drums), plus guitarist Edward Donohue and organist Brian Kalkbrenner, who appeared on a second EP, Can and Do What They Will, released in 2004 and then joined on, making the group a quintet. They then went on to record their first full-length CD, From Where You Were to How You Got There, released on Hackshop Records in February 2006. Between the recording sessions and the release date, Donohue left the band and was replaced by Michael Hirst.

Grogshow

Grogshow was a two piece band that sadly, no longer exists. The principal songwriter and vocalist, Marc Kisting, died in 1996 of a sudden illness in his Portland apartment. He and drummer, Jason Williams, had gone to Oregon to make a go with their stripped down emotional plea. A sad fact for all of us, that we might have heard even more great things from this duo.

Marc Kisting, a native of Dubuque, Iowa, developed his own guitar style. Part blues, part arpeggiated folk - something like a somber Jimmie Page with the ability to mimic John Paul Jones at the same time. Grogshow would not be Grogshow without the fluidity of the drums, Jason's interplay with the guitars and vocal. Each cymbal and snare hit is perfectly placed, creating an organic 'call and response' between rhythm and melody. It was clear from the music they made together that Marc and Jason were good friends.

There is a CD released with the recordings what Grogshow did in a basement in Iowa before leaving for Oregon. Remixed and remastered in the fall of 2005 by the folks who originally engineered and recorded it, this CD is an introduction by people who cared about Marc and his songs to those unlucky enough to have never met Grogshow in person.

The CD is available at Future Appletree.
All profits from sales will be donated to the Leukemia Research Foundation.

Plajia

Plajia is a four-piece indie outfit from Montreal, Canada. The music of the band is not easy to describe, it's an experimental rock, filled with various emotions, and obviously influenced by the music of Radiohead, Pink Floyd, etc. 'Plajia' is a name derived from the word “plagiarism” which means: “To put forth as original to oneself the ideas or words of another”. The band has released three EPs ('Fetch', 'Cellular Phone', 'Citis') and the LP named 'Citis', enhanced version of the EP with the same name. The albums can be purchased via Plajia web page.

Casiotone For The Painfully Alone

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone is the lo-fi solo project of Portland, OR, indie-boy Owen Ashworth. His songwriting is part Bright Eyes sensitive singer/songwriter heartache balladry and Atom & His Package battery-operated antics. His weapons of choice are Casio SK-1 and his hot-rod Casiotones. His lyrics are a coy-edged blend of Stephin Merritt sarcasm and the Mountain Goats earnestness. His first recording, Answering Machine Music: A Brief Album in Twelve Parts, was released in 1999 on his own label Cassingle USA and loosely a concept album of clever musical voice mails. Some of the tracks, including "Theme From David Hanna," were first recorded into his machine. Pocket Symphonies for Lonesome Subway Cars followed in 2001 on Tomlab and included several "real" instruments including cello and drums. Casiotone for the Painfully Alone is about to release its most sonically expansive record yet, Etiquette, on the surefire Tomlab Records label.

Ross Golan And Molehead

The music of Ross Golan is a mixture of different genres, from reggae to rock, politically inspired, pointed against 'the machine', criticizing the system and calling for peace and justice. Ross refers to Eminem's role influencing the youth ('Dear Slim'), sings about Martha Stewart ('Martha Stewart') and call the people to stand up against injustice ('Move').

Minimalist rap-rock and political agitation are Ross Golan's modus operandi. He grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, began playing piano at five years old, and left the Windy City when he was 18 to find more fertile musical territory in Los Angeles. He ended up in East L.A., where he met drummer Bryan Head and bass player Billy Mohler. With a lyrical focus on left-wing politics and music steeped in the Beastie Boys and Sublime, the three recorded their debut album, Reagan Baby, with producer Marvin Etzioni in 2003. The album was released on Insider in 2004.

Wes McDonald

A veteran of Athens, GA jangle rock outfit, The Ohms, and assorted solo projects, Wes McDonald has been known to tackle a genre or two in his day. Brendan Benson like alt-rock with the elements of Americana, powerful melodies and excellent vocals are only some of the attributes that can describe McDonald's music. McDonald has three full-length albums behind him and is about to deliver the new one that sounds very promising as you'll be able to check. McDonald’s latest offering, called '1:50 in the Furnace', is somewhat less frantic in terms of taking on all genres. The clarity and vision of his first three releases remain solid as ever, and though he doesn't mine the country folk territory of his rootsy Cuttin’ Up Rocks, McDonald secures his place solidly in melodic Americana.

Former Athenian (GA) and current Birmingham (AL) resident Wes McDonald is set to release his fourth LP, 1:50 In The Furnace, on Skybucket Records on April 4, 2006. The album, produced in part by Ken Coomer, formerly of Wilco and Uncle Tupelo, is a sterling collection of old-fashioned power pop and country-rock, the kind of gimmick-free rock-solid songwriting that doesn’t come around too often. You can preview some of the new tracks that are presented here. To hear more from Wes McDonald visit McDonald's official page.

The Raconteurs

The long awaited collaboration between Jack White and Brendan Benson has finally got it's result - The Raconteurs. The band is made up of old friends, consisting of Jack Lawrence (bass), Patrick Keeler (drums), Brendan Benson (guitars, vocals, keys) and Jack White (guitars, vocals, keys). To quote Jack, "It's a whole new band - a dual attack with dual guitars, dual vocals, and dual songwriting". The seed was sewn in an attic in the middle of a hot summer when friends Jack White and Brendan Benson got together and wrote a song that truly inspired them. This song was "Steady, As She Goes" and the inspiration led to the creation of a full band with the addition of Lawrence and Keeler. While each of these four individuals have had successful careers with their own bands, the culmination of all of their talents is what truly makes The Raconteurs a force to be reckoned with. Look out for a very limited, double A side 7", 'Steady, As She Goes'/'Store Bought Bones' available in the shops now! The songs can be previewed at the band's very cool 'AppleII/Atari style' based page.

The quartet convened at Benson's East Grand Studio to lay down the basic tracks for Broken Boy Soldiers. Work would continue whenever the boys could get together over the next year. Finally, the album has found a window for its release in May of 2006. The band is now, for its members, all consuming and they now present themselves to be....consumed, or at best simply heard.

Foo Fighters - Live Rock En Seine 2005

While he was drumming with Nirvana, Dave Grohl was recording original songs at home that never received public release. Those tapes would become the foundation of Foo Fighters, the band he formed in 1995, after the death of Kurt Cobain. Like Nirvana, Foo Fighters melded loud, heavy guitars with pretty melodies and mixed punk sensibilities with a sharp sense of pop songwriting.

The Dresden Dolls - Live In Lion

Combine the smoky cellars of a Weimar-era cabaret with the rock n' roll fury of Joan Jett, PJ Harvey and The Violent Femmes and you have a remote idea of what to expect when experiencing The Dresden Dolls. Ever since taking up arms in mid-2000, the über-dynamic duo of Amanda Palmer (Piano/Vox) and Brian Viglione (Drums) has been selling out clubs in Boston, New York and beyond. Palmer accompanies her confessional story-songs with a thunderous and shimmering piano style that rests on the shoulders of Jerry Lee Lewis and Nina Simone. Viglione's jazz and hardcore-influenced drumming and creative percussion are the perfect foil, providing in turns a delicate cradle of rhythm and a piercing bed of nails onto which Palmer lays her raw, tragicomic lyrics.

The release of their debut album, produced by Martin Bisi (Swans, Sonic Youth), has won the band accolades from both mainstream and underground media, and it appears that the Dolls are poised to transcend cult status and smash all commonly held ideas about what a rock band is supposed to be. Their awe-striking live energy and singular look has earned them opening slots for Beck, the B-52s and Jane's Addiction, a tour with the Legendary Pink Dots, a victory in the 2003 WBCN Rock and Roll Rumble and a quickly growing army of devoted fans from ages 5 to 85. Ever looking forward, The Dresden Dolls are preparing to record new material with acclaimed local producers Sean Slade and Paul Kolderie (Radiohead, Courtney Love).
